I found this awesome camo shirt at Kohl’s department store recently.

I’m not the world’s most sophisticated dresser. For the most part, it’s either an athletic or sports coach look or something more outdoorsy suited for hunting or fishing camp. I’ve never taken fashion seriously but can look the part when needed for work or other more formal occasions. Considering all that, I’m completely satisfied with whatever I can find at department stores other than my occasional purchases at Orvis or Dick’s Sporting Goods. I’ve always had luck at Kohl’s, which offers a nice range of affordable to higher end clothing to fit most needs. As much as I like their selection, I particularly enjoy their clearance racks and opportunities to earn Kohl’s Cash, which is basically $5 for every $50 spent. It’s like free money, and it keeps you coming back because it feels like you’re throwing money away if you don’t. I’m an easy target for this scam that’s designed to keep you coming back, but I’m a willful victim.

One thing I don’t go to Kohl’s for is hunting clothing, but that’s just what I found on a recent trip. Although I’m sure it wasn’t designed with hunting in mind, I found a heavyweight button down shirt in an old school camo pattern while browsing the clearance racks. It immediately reminded me of the first camo I ever hunted in, which was a hand me down shirt from my dad. By the time I got it, the shirt was so worn out you could barely make out the camo pattern and it was almost see through. I don’t ever remember having pants to match so who knows what I wore to go with it. Anyway, according to Angela a garment like this is known as a “shacket,” a term for a shirt that is also heavy enough to be a jacket. This is obviously a new word for me so not only did I get a cool new hunting shirt, it came with a fashion education.

By the time all the discounts were applied I think I paid less than $20 for the thing. You can’t even get gloves for that price from “real” camo companies so I consider it a steal. It will obviously be an early archery season garment but it will go nicely with my traditional bows and throwback hunting setup. Just putting it on to show it off gave me the feels of my 1980’s hunts so I’m already excited about donning it this fall. Maybe it will become my lucky hunting shirt.
